I grew up in an Italian‑American household, and some of my fondest memories are of meals lovingly prepared by my Italian grandmother, my Aunt Kate, and my Mom. One of my favorite dishes has always been lasagna — rich, cheesy, and layered with love. But let’s be honest, traditional lasagna is a labor of love that takes time.

When I came across a recipe for ravioli lasagna, I knew I had to try it! This clever twist captures all the flavor and comfort of the classic version, but with a fraction of the effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 32- ounce jar Marinara sauce (I use Rao’s)
  • 20-ounces Fresh ravioli (I use Rana Spinach and Ricotta ravioli)
  • 15- ounce container Ricotta cheese (whole or part skim)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp. Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese

Instructions

Preheat the oven

  1. Preheat oven to 350 ℉.

Prepare cheese mixture

  1. Mix together Ricotta and Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper and egg.

Prepare casserole

  1. Layer ⅓ marinara sauce in 9×13 inch baking dish. Top with ½ of the ravioli, then dollop the Ricotta cheese mixture on top of the Ravioli. Scatter with 1 cup mozzarella. Layer another 1/3 of the marinara, top with remaining ravioli. Cover top layer with remaining marinara sauce and sprinkle with remaining 1 cup mozzarella

Bake the Lasagna

  1. Cover the lasagna with foil, bake in 350 ℉ oven for 30 minutes, remove foil and bake for another 20 minutes until cheese has melted and browned and casserole is bubbling. Let rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Choose Fresh Refrigerated RavioliFresh ravioli cooks up softer and more tender than frozen, giving your lasagna silky layers that melt right into the sauce.

Use a Flavorful SauceA good marinara makes all the difference. Whether it’s homemade or your favorite jarred brand, choose one with rich tomato flavor and plenty of garlic and herbs.

Don’t Skimp on the CheeseMozzarella gives you that stretchy, melty top, while Parmesan adds savory depth. A little extra sprinkle on each layer makes the whole dish taste richer.

Cover for Part of the BakeKeeping the dish covered for the first half helps the ravioli steam and soften. Uncovering it at the end gives you that gorgeous, bubbly, golden top.

Let It Rest Before SlicingGiving the lasagna 10–15 minutes to settle helps the layers firm up so you get clean, beautiful slices.
